Miranda Hamilton
Instructional Designer
About me
I’m a learning experience designer with 19 years’ experience in global education and teacher training. I bring together strong pedagogical foundations, design thinking and digital technologies to create learning that is structured, thoughtful and engaging, with a clear focus on real-world application.

Over my career, I have designed courses, developed materials and trained teachers across international contexts, in both online and face-to-face settings. From 2021 onwards, my work increasingly focused on digital learning experience design, building on this foundation. That experience continues to shape how I approach digital learning, with close attention to how people learn, where they struggle and what makes learning meaningful and applicable.

I hold a Diploma in Digital Learning Design, completed with distinction, alongside certifications in instructional design and social learning design, and a BA (Hons) in Fine Art.

Pedagogical depth

My background is in teaching and teacher education. I have designed courses from the ground up, trained and certified teachers, and developed materials and designed assessments across diverse educational contexts.

Years in classrooms and training rooms have given me a practical understanding of how people actually learn. This shapes how I approach digital course design. I think carefully about structure, cognitive load, sequencing and motivation, as well as tailoring content to the learner’s level of knowledge and expertise. I believe learning is most effective when it is active and collaborative, when learners take ownership, apply ideas, receive feedback and are given space to reflect.
Collaboration and leadership
I value open and honest collaboration and prioritise human connection within project teams. I listen carefully, ask considered questions and approach feedback as a constructive and developmental process, drawing on my experience as a teacher trainer to provide clear and supportive guidance.
In my work on digital learning projects and leadership in higher education, I have managed course delivery, improved learning experiences based on learner feedback and analytics, and contributed to the development of structured digital courses within cross-functional teams. This has strengthened my ability to balance quality assurance standards with operational constraints and defined project timelines.
Creative perspective
I hold a Fine Art degree from Kingston University, London, and that background continues to shape how I think and design. It trained me to observe carefully, question assumptions and approach problems from multiple perspectives.

In learning design, this translates into strong visual awareness and attention to narrative flow, structure and composition. I think carefully about how ideas are organised and presented, not just what content is included. It has also strengthened my ability to think conceptually and approach complex challenges with flexibility and creativity.
Curious and human-focussed

I believe learning is most effective when it is active and social, and when learners are encouraged to engage, contribute and reflect, rather than remain passive. Far from being the poorer cousin on face-to-face learning, digital learning environments, when designed thoughtfully, can support diverse learners and create more inclusive educational spaces.

Across both education and professional contexts, I take a human-centred approach to design. I begin with the learner’s needs, prior knowledge and context, creating experiences in which learners feel connected, actively involved and focused on meaningful application.
